The tricksters at PC Music are at it again, releasing another bonkers slab of pop deconstructionism. “Wannabe” sounds like it comes from a supremely warped, over saturated mind, a sonic rendering of our lightning-paced, hyper-stimulated digital culture. Every time you think you get a feel for what one of their tracks will do, it zigs violently in the other direction. “Wannabe” is an exhilarating amalgam of of vaporwave, dance pop, hardcore, future bass, and about a thousand other things, and incredibly, all of these disparate elements form a cohesive, digestible whole. When it resolves into its exhilarating climax, you’ll be left dumbfounded at how you got that far in just two minutes.
