What’s in a name? Evidently, a hell of a lot. If this album would have been released under the “Bon Iver” name instead of “Volcano Choir” one, the Internet would be rabidly awaiting the album, like a ravenous golden retriever desperate for a the belly-rub of all belly-rubs. As things stand, however, Repave has kind of slipped through the cracks, but make no mistake, this is one of the best things Vernon has ever done. While Volcano Choir and Bon Iver have different personnel, the Wisconsin-native’s presence is front and center, and this very much feels like the next logical step from Bon Iver’s triumphant 2011 LP. Suffice it to say, it is very, very good.
